EAST EUROPE
Sir, —Can “Lest we Forget” justify the betrayal of Hungary to Soviet troops by a Hungarian? Can he justify the massacre of people in Budapest, whose only “crime” is the desire for freedom? And deportation? And execution? If “Lest We Forget” puts himself in the place of an average Hungarian how would he feel if all his property was controlled by the State, if he could not send his children to school for fear of indoctrination, if secret, police were liable to arrest and charge him with “espionage,” if the oractice of his religion was banned? The Hungarians are still resisting] Russia and they will continue to strike until their rightful demands. as humans, are met.—Yours, etc., _. _ AM. November 19, 1956.
