POTTERY IN THE GROUP SHOW

Sir,—l agree with Mr Deans that weight is a consideration in pottery—a consideration, however, which is dependent on function. The bowls which I particularly mentioned are heavy, but as their dimensions preclude them from use as anything other than fruit bowls or some similar semi-decorative purpose, the question of weight becomes immaterial. Had the articles in question been teacups of similar density Mr Deans’s objection would have] been relevant. The weight of the l bowls is due to the thick glaze, and at lhe biscuit stage they were probably no heavier than any other pot of comparable volume.—Yours, etc., J.N.K. November 19, 1956.
