CLASH EXPECTED OVER WAGES
(N.Z Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 17 Britain is threatened with the biggest industrial struggle for 20 years as a result of the decision of 40 engineering and ship-building unions in conference at Hastings to press for pay increases of probably £1 a week, as well as a 40-hour week foi 3,000,000 men, says the “News Chronicle.” These two claims are estimated to cost at least £150,000,000 a year. The “News Chronicle” adds: “The unions are angry and a clash is certain. An Electrical Trade Union spokesman said that the employers can afford to pay the rise, and that his union is determined to get it whether by negotiations or by other methods. ”
