AFTER STALIN
Sir, —The power of the press is considerable. but the common man will be able to see through the reasons behind the headlines in the papers lately. There are “reports” of disturbances in the Ukraine and the American-inspired riots in Poland also received much attention. The United States Congress wants the matter investigated by the United Nations. Is all this being done to shift the emphasis from our own troubles in Cyprus. Malaya, and so on. to the other side? Who are we to talk about riots in these countries? We can’t manage our own affairs decently. —Yours, etc., P.J.A. July 5, 1956.
