A SQUID?

Sir, —Recently, I listened to a question panel discussing decimal coinage. I was surprised to hear that the new unit will be, not the pound, but the 10s note, for which a name will have to be found. Well, everyone knows how far Mr Holland said he could make the pound go. Under the National Party in a few years it will undoubtedly have the same purchasing power as the 1949 10s note. Your correspondents have often discussed “Sid’s quid.” As a superannuitant who has received a negligible number of pounds from Mr Holland, I suggest that the new unit be called the “squid.” S stands for Sid’s. Mr Holland’s remarkable achievements will be thus for ever commemorated in the money table.—Yours, etc., LISTENER-IN. July 5, 1956.
