THEATRE ROYAL

Sir. —I recently attended a pianoforte recital in the Theatre Royal. Christchurch. Five nights later I attended a similar recital in the Wellington Town Hall. Acoustically, the Christchurch programme could not compare with the bell-like clarity of the Wellington performance, where sounds lost nothing in their transference from the instrument to the auditorium. Another fact appreciated by a long-suffering concert-goer was that, whereas in Christchurch every paroxysm of our uninhibited coughers completely drowned the notes of the piano, in Wellington the music was able to rise serene , over all extraneous noises. Please let us have our town hall soon. —Yours, etc., COME ON, CHRISTCHURCH. April 27, 1956.
