SALK POLIO VACCINE

Production By Russia

(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, May 5. Russia will produce the American Salk anti-poliomyelitis vaccine because “we are convinced that it is an effective vaccine,” Moscow Radio said today. “The United States’ most important achievement in the study and treatment of poliomyelitis is Dr. Salk s vaccine,” Professor Mikhail Chumakovwn, head of the Soviet Institute for the Study of Poliomyelitis, said over the radio. The first British children were inoculated yesterday with the new British poliomyelitis vaccine, a development of the Salk formula. It is hoped that up to 5,000,000 children between two and nine years of age will be inoculated this summer. Canada, Mexico and West Germany are among other countries using the Salk vaccine.
