LABOUR WRITER LOSES SIGHT
(Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 5. The sulphuric acid assault a month ago on the Labour columnist, Victor Riesel, has resulted in the loss of his sight. ‘‘There is no hope at all now that Victor Riesel will ever see again,” said an announcement yesterday from Mr Robert Hall, president of the' syndicate which distributes Mr Riesel’s newspaper column nationally. A medical report said that sulphuric acid thrown by an unidentified man had destroyed the tissues of the eyes. Mr Riesel was attacked as he left a restaurant <f>n April 5, a few hours after he made an attack on Labour union racketeering. Mr Riesel’s column will continue to be issued. Its preparation will be guided by the blinded columnist with the help of assistants.
