MALVERN COUNTY COUNCIL
STOCK WATER SUPPLY SCHEME A scheme to supply stock water for Malvern and Oxford counties was proposed by the Malvern County Council’s consulting engineer (Mr H. G. Royds) at a recent meeting of the council. Mr Royds reported that he had almost completed a preliminary survey of the Waimakariri area. It was pointed out that the initial cost of any water supply scheme would be high and this was advanced as a reason for the two counties to share the expenditure. A letter from the district commissioner of xvorks (Mr A. E. Clarke) informed the council that county water race systems did not qualify for a government subsidy. The council decided to suggest to the Oxford County Council that the two counties hold a combined meeting to discuss the proposals. Building Permit Fees As an encouragement to home building "in the townships, the council decided to allow a rebate of 25 per cent, on the standard building i permit fees which had been adopted ■ last year. ’ The treasurer reported that after the final day for payment of rates.
e £27,791 had been received out of ■ £27.977 struck. This was 99.33 per ° cent. The bank balance at the end R of February was a credit of £12,757 d 8s 2d, but certain major works, such as the sealing of the Homebush-Glen-r tunnel highway, would have to be s « paid for during March.
