CLAIMS TO LAND IN ANTARCTICA
MEMBERS OF CREW OF U.S. ICEBREAKER (New Zealand Press Ax»ociati<m) WELLINGTON. March 12. All the 270 members of the crew of the United States ice-breaker Edisto, i at present under repair in the floating i dock at Wellington, will soon have in- . dividual claims to a pait of Antarctica. Signed by the commanding officer of j the Edisto (Commander R. W. Luther*. ? the claims include separate lot i numbers shown on a map of Edisto > Bay, a hitherto unnamed bay near i Cape Hallett on the western shores of s the Ross Sea. One of the Edisto’s officers said he s did not believe the claims would be t the start of a land rush. “The captain’s idea is to give all a those who want it proof that they have e taken part in the expedition,” he said. 8 “We have the same thing for crossing-thc-line ceremonies.’’
