RIVERINA TEAM AT AUCKLAND

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 24. Aided by fine batting by P. Morris and W. Playle, Auckland scored 291 against the touring Riverina cricket team on the first day of a two-day match at Eden Park this afternoon.

Morris, a stylish, forceful batsman, was the top scorer for Auckland with 68. Playle scored 54 ( V. Belsham made 67 not out. Riverina had lost two wickets for 39 runs at stumps. Scores:—

Auckland.—First innings, 291 (Morris 68, Belsham 67 not out, Playle 54, J. Wright 22; L. Whiticker three for 72, G. Bre<vster two for 55). Riverina.—First innings, 39 for two wickets (Smith 32 not out).
