CHILD REPORTED DROWNED
POLICE INQUIRIES IN NORTHLAND (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. January 23. An Auckland police pathologist will go to Whangarei tomorrow morning to carry out a post-mortem examination on the body qf a seven-year-old Maori boy who was reported to have been drowned in Pawarenga creek. Whangape harbour, on Sunday afternoon. The child is Francis Pukeroa, of Pawarenga. a small settlement on the Whangape harbour. Detective J. Russell, of the Whanga-
rei police, left for Pawarenga today after certain facts could not be explained.
The boy is alleged to have gone swimming in the Pawarenga creek on Sunday afternoon with his elder brother.. The boy’s brother has told the police that he saw his brother s “ k .J™ „ slght - He went for help, and the body was later recovered from the creek.
The nearest police to Pawarenga are a l K *°?i lkO u“. J They were not told about the child s death until early this morning Later, a constable went to the settlement and took the child's body to the Rawene Hospital, where it was examined by a doctor.
