SEARCH FOR STOLEN SHEEP

THREE OF 352 FOUND (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. January 4. Hawke’s Bay police believe they are on the trail of thieves who drove 352 heavily-woolled sheep awav from a Waipukurau farm under cover of darkness on December 26. They have narrowed their search to the Hatuma area, about six miles south-east of the farm, as a result of the discovery of three of the stolen ewes. The owner (Mr A. W. Kibble white) and his men found one of the ewes arowned in the Ngarakiki creek. Tracks and droppings indicated the ford where the flock was driven across. A second ewe was found wandering near the creek in obvious distress, and had to be destroyed. The third sheep, found on the Waipukurau side of the creek, has been returned to Mr Kibblewhite’s property. A strong police party, assisted by farm workers, is continuing the search for the sheep today.
