j First Christchurch Meetings SCIENTIFIC PROJECTS INSPECTED For the first time in its history, the Council of Scientific and Industrial . Research, which advises the Minister ’ in charge of the department (Mr R. M. Algie), is meeting in Christchurch. The innovation of meetings in centres outside Wellington is designed to let members see personally the work which is being done in all divisions of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and other projects which it finances in the university colj leges and elsewhere. Among the centres inspected yester--1 day were the Wheat Research Insti- ■ tute, the Botany Division, the Magt netic Observatory, the Geophysical Observatory, the Soil Bureau, the Gov- ’ ernment’s Analyst’s laboratory, and the Geological Survey. I Today the council will visit the Crop J Research Division at Lincoln, research ■ projects financed at Canterbury Agrir cultural College, and the meteor res search station of the physics departi ment of Canterbury University Colt lege. Tomorrow there will be meetings of the Manufacturers’ Research Com- ) mitee. Business sessions are being held between inspections.
