GERMAN ATTITUDE TO BRITONS

NO ANTAGONISM FOUND BY N.Z. VISITOR

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 23.

Mr F. Maurice Clarke, of Wellington, finds it difficult to believe that there is any real antagonism in Germany towards members of the British Commonwealth. He said this yesterday on his return to New Zealand after an extensive visit to Britain, the Continent and the United States. “I cannot understand how anyone could complain of the attitude of the Germans to New Zealanders and the British people,” he said. ‘‘Not once did I hear any Briton complain of nis treatment. There was certainly nothing but friendliness and consideration shown to me wherever I went, and by all classes. “The marvellous recovery of Western Germany and the very substantial efforts being made by each individual leads one to believe that they are too busy to be intolerant. “In meetings with many bankers and commercial people only the most friendly attitude was evident, and there were no recriminations against the destruction of their cities, which was both extensive and still in evidence over very wide areas.”
