CEMENT WORKS AT WESTPORT
FINANCIAL DETAILS ANNOUNCED fNew Zealand Press Association) v WELLINGTON. November 23. rurther details of the project for a new cement works at Westport were ?iven today by a Wellington sharebroking firm, on behalf of the British firms sponsoring the scheme. The firm announced that it had been decided to proceed at the earliest possible date with construction of cement works with an annual capacity of 100.000 tons. The capital involved was about £2.000.000. The company would be registered in New Zealand. The scheme had been sponsored by the Tunnel Portland Cement Company. Ltd., in association with William Baird and Company. Ltd., William Cory and Son, Ltd., and the Northern Mercantile and Investment Corporation. Ltd These four companies would provide the major part of the ordinary share capital. Sterling debenture stock and ordinary shares were being placed in London. An issue of ordinary shares would also be made in New Zealand early in 1956.
The consulting engineers concerned with the erection of the plant would be F. L. Smidth and Company, Ltd. When the plant was in operation, technical advice would be made available by the Tunnel Portland Cement Company, Ltd.
