PUBLIC STAND AT ADDINGTON

Sir, —I, as an outside patron, who attended the trotting meeting at Addington yesterday, wish emphatically to protest at the imposition on the outside patrons in taking part of the one and only stand for the use of owners and trainers. If this sort of thing continues the club will only have itself to blame for a large decline in attendances in the future, because one only had to move about in the crowd to hear the protestations over this imposition, which was more noticeable yesterday. With a cold, biting wind blowing, people could not get the shelter they so sorely needed. Does the Metropolitan Trotting Club still intend to filch from the outside patrons a part of the only stand available to them? If so, then, as I said, there will be a serious falling off in attendance' of the outside patrons.—Yours, etc., EDWARD BARTLETT. August 21, 1955. [The secretary of the Metropolitan Trotting Club (Mr D. C. Parker) said that a small reservation in the outside stand had been made by the controlling body of the course (Addington Trotting Course, Ltd.), at the request of the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association and the New Zealand Metropolitan and Canterbury Park Trotting Clubs to help relieve the overcrowding on the owners’ and breeders’ stand. It was hoped that it would be only a temporary measure, he said.]
