Record Channel Swim Recognised

DOVER, August 28. The Channel Swimming Association said today that it will recognise Bill Pickering’s 14hr 6min swim from England to France yesterday as a record. The association’s secretary, Mr W. Floyd, said that the time of 13hr 45min set up by the Egyptian, Abdel Latif Abu Heif, in 1953, was unofficial. No official observers accompanied the swimmer.

The previous official record for the England to France swim was held by Miss Florence Chadwick, of California, with the time of 14hr 42min set up in September, 1953.
