MILK
Sir. —I would like to congratulate Mr A. J. Brash, of the Department of Agriculture, on his article in “The Press” this morning. We dairy farmers who wish to produce high quality milk at all times sometimes find it very hard during or after a drought to buy a balanced food at an economic price. All bran and pollard supplies seem to be kept for the poultry industry. Mr J. E. Royds says that if Friesians were discarded, there would be no milk in Christchurch. I think this is 70 per cent, bluff. A number of producers have been supplying high grade milk above their quota summer and winter, for quite a long period; this milk is classed as surplus and paid for at Is 2d a gallon.— Yours, etc., PRODUCER NO. 2. June 17, 1955.
