PARKING METERS.
Sir, —I am amused to read in your paper from time to time, feeble complaints about the installation of these mechanical highwaymen. parking meters. From the numbers of cars one sees parked outside metered areas this latest imposition seems very unpopular. Surely the remedy for this cynical negation of civic liberty is to boycott the entire areas infested by these leering monstrosities. both for parking and shopping purposes, use the suburban shopping districts as far as possible, and apply the vote the right way at next council elections, so as to make it plain to the gentlemen concerned that the position they occupy is one of office and not of unrestricted power. It has been said that the price of liberty is unremitting vigilance; and it follows that if motorists are too supine to take this effective action they deserve all they get.—Yours, etc., DICK TURPIN.
