DETONATORS
Sir, —Something drastic should be done to emphasise the danger of detonators. In New Plymouth, a man has blown himself to death by shaking a canister containing 100 detonators. Only the other day I knew of a woman who found one in a piece of paper. She shook it and looked closely at it, but by good fortune did not squeeze it or drop it. She then asked her daughter what it was. The daughter took it and was even more careless in trying to discover what it was. Finally, they threw it into the kitchen stove, which, a few seconds later, blew to bits. Luckily, no-one was near. The man of the house came tearing in and soon discovered what an escape the women had had. It is high time harder and faster laws were brought in, and that women and children should know the look of these awful things.—Yours, etc., UNNECESARY DANGER. June 17, 1&55.
