U.S. Airline Orders Turbo-Prop Planes

American Airlines announced today that it had ordered 35 four-engine turbo-prop airliners, tt e first American challenge to British leadership in the commercial jet-with-propeller field. The Lockheed Aircraft Corporation will make the planes for 65,000,000 dollars. The two companies said that delivery of the new airliner, to be called the Lockheed Electra, will begin in the latter part of 1958. All of the 35 nlanes are to be delivered by the middle of 1959.
