MAN STABBED IN ARM
Altercation In Square
An argument among two women and three or four men in Cathedral square last evening led to the stabbing of one of the men by one of the women. The man, Francis Sydney Dixon, aged 28, a shop manager, of Christchurch, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital with a wound in Ms upper arm and other slight wounds. His condition was reported to be satisfactory late last evening.
The police were questioning two women and a man until early this morning. According to eye-witnesses, the argument was in progress at the corner of Worcester street and the Square by "The Press” building. The party then moved across the road to the footpath at the rear of the Cathedral. When the man was attacked he ran back across the road to the Government Buildings, with the woman in pursuit, and then to the tramway shed corner. Mrs J. T. Woodhouse, of 415 St. Asaph street, who had previously heard the argument in progress before she went into "The Press" building about 10.30 p.ni., saw a man pulling a knife out of his arm, when she had returned past the Government Buildings about a quarter of an hour later. She applied a tourniquet to the man’s ann where his coat showed a jagged rip, while a passer-by summoned a taxi. She also saw that the man was bleeding from the head. A small crowd, mainly persons who had attended theatres, gathered. The police later picked up two women and a man who were nearby and took them to the station in a patrol car.
