SECOND CHILD DIES CYCLISTS STRUCK BY CAR AT TEMUKA (New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, June 7. A fatal accident on the State highway at Andrewville, Temuka, at 10.50 p.m. yesterday claimed its second victim when Neil Morland, aged about 8, died in the Timaru Public Hospital at 7.30 a.m. today. His 11-year-old sister, Patsy, was killed instantly when the cycles she and her two young brothers, Neil and John, were riding, were struck by a motorcar driven by Mr W. D. Skelton, a jockey, of Arundel.

John’s condition was described as satisfactory by the hospital authorities tonight. Neil died of head and spinal injuries. John received concussion. The children’s parents are Mr and Mrs G. Morland, 362 Main North road, Temuka.

16 MONTH OLD GIRL FATALLY BURNT

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 7. A girl aged 16 months died in the Auckland Hospital early this morning from burns suffered when she upset a jug of boiling water over herself on May 21. She was:

CHILD DIES AFTER DRINKING POISON

(New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, June 7. Victoria May Milne, aged two years, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ronald Milne, of “Tirohanga,” Kekerangu. died in the Wairau Public Hospital last night after drinking spirits of salts at the home of her parents on Friday morning. Evidence was given at an inquest this morning that the child had apparently obtained a bottle of the spirits from nearby quarters where plumbers had been working.

CARS COLLIDE NEAR INANGAHUA

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH,. June 7. Three women passengers in cars involved in a collision on the Grey-* mouth-Nelson highway near Inangahua Landing were injured and taken to the Reefton Hospital, though only one remained a patient today. She is Shirley Fattorini, aged 18, a nurse, of Nelson, who suffered a fractured leg. She was a passenger in a car driven by John Edward Morton, of Nelson. This car and another driven by Frank Parker, of Christchurch, met in a head-on collision on a sharp bend about 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

Miss Jennifer Mathewson and Miss Janice Ashton, both of Westport, passengers in Mr Parker’s car, were treated for severe shock and were discharged from hospital today. Two other passengers escaped injury, but Mr Morton required medical attention for minor head injuries, abrasions and cuts. Both vehicles were damaged extensively.

CAR HITS STRAYING HORSE

Mr Raymond Stanley Alfrey, of 59 Wilkin street, Temuka, suffered slight injuries and shock when the car he was driving collided with a stray horse on the Main South road at Tinwald,. about .six o’clock yesterday morning. He was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital, where his condition was reported as being satisfactory. The car was moderately damaged and the horse was .killed. CYCLIST INJURED

Mr Andrew Smaill, aged 77, a cyclist, of 67 Avonhead road, was injured yesterday when he was involved in a collision with a car in Yaldhurst road. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital at 4.35 p.m. His condition was reported to be satisfactory late last evening.
