ENTRY TO BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL
210 PUPILS TO BE ACCEPTED 342 APPLICATIONS MADE ALREADY The Christchurch ’Boys’ High School up till yesterday afternoon had 342 applications for the 210 third-form places available next year. After the Board of Governors had been in committee for an hour and a quarter, the chairman (Mr C. H. Perkins) made the following statement in open meeting:—
“Because of the increasing number of boys returning in the upper forms, the admissions for 1956 will have to be limited to six third forms. This should keep the total roll about 1000, as in 1955.
“The Board of Governors has again endorsed a resolution of November, 1954, which said: ‘This board reaffirms the desirability of giving preference to sons of old boys, brothers of boys attending the school, and pupils living in the vicinity of the school: but in each case consideration should also be given to the suitability of the applicant to profit from the courses available.’ ”
