POLICE CITATION FOR COURAGE

AWARD TO AUCKLAND SERGEANT ARREST OF ARMED MAN LAST APRIL (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 2. More than 250 members of the Police Force from all parts of the Auckland district today saw the ControllerGeneral of Police (Mr S. T. Barnett) present Sergeant E. J. Jensen, of the Auckland 'Central station, with a citation for meritorious service. The ceremony took place in the Rutland Street Drill Hall, and it is believed to have been the first time that a member of the force has been presented with a citation before his fellow members. During the presentation, police stations were manned by skeleton staffs. Sergeant Jensen won his citation for arresting a drunken man in possession of a loaded rifle at New Lynn on the night of April 24. The citation said ne displayed courage and devotion to duty at great risk to his own life. Mr Barnett said he knew that other members of the force would have done likewise, but this did not detract from the courage of Sergeant Jensen. After the presentation, about 30 representatives of all branches of the force in Auckland met at the Auckland Central station to bid farewell to Sub-Inspector O. S. Power, who has been appointed one of the two personal assistants to Mr Barnett. Hie other is an administration assistant, Mr A. N. V. Tobbs. ’ • Sub-Inspector Power has served for 30 years in the Police Force. He was presented with a crystal decanter and glasses.
