DECK CARGO TAKEN FROM SHIP

COMPLAINT BY CREW (New Zealand Press Association) . AUCKLAND, May 27. After action by the orew, some deck cargo was removed from .the Pateke before she sailed for Lyttelton today. The crew claimed that the deck cargo, including 18 cars, a condenser, roofing, pipes and drums, was about double the authorised limit of 25 tons. Crew members refused to sail at 10 o’clock last night. A marine surveyor visited the ship this morning and -found that the deck cargo was eight tons over the limit. Cargo workers were then called to unload the piping.

Crew members said today they were r-oncerned about possible * damage to the cargo and danger to their own lives in the event of a heavy storm.
