LOCAL BODIES

Sir,—Can someone please explain why party politics are always introduced into local bodies? It is surprising how some newspapers make such a mouthful of this at election time. Why cannot politics be left where they belong? The writer years ago was on a school committee when politics were the order of the day. He did not waste much time on that body. Some members would introduce politics every chance they had, always upsetting the harmony of the meeting.—Yours, etc., A. M. Timaru, May 26, 1955.
