Trials By Spanish Military Court
(Rec. 8.30 p.m) MADRID, May 25. Twelve alleged Communists were charged before a Spanish Military Court today with attempting to organise a clandestine Communist Party in Spain, with organising propaganda against the pact between the United States and Spain, and with gathering information about United States bases in Spain. Under Spanish law, such charges are classified as “military rebellions.” The military prosecutor. Captain Enrique Amadeo del Campo, asked for two sentences of 30 years, one of 20 years, three of 15 years and six of 12 years’ imprisonment.
Compensation by Japan.—The Japanese Government has announced that it has sent the International Red Cross £4.500,000 as compensation for Allied prisoners of war who suffered undue hardship in Japanese prisoner-of-war camps.—London, May 25.
