HOME ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION
FOUNDER’S DAY MARKED The May meeting of the Home Economics Association was observed as Founder’s Day. Miss E. Killner presided. Mrs R. W. Borland (hon. secretary) read the minutes of the first meeting of the association held in Christchurch in 1919. Honoured guests w’ere Miss S. McKee, the first pesident, Mrs George Cooper, and Mrs N. Stone. Miss McKee and Mesdames Cooper and Stone gave details of the activities of earlier days. Members of the singing circle, under the leadership of Mrs R. O’Brien, sang several old-time songs in oldtime dress. The accompanist was Mrs Sewell. Mrs Patricia De Cleene, a visitor from Palmerston North, described a three-year journey round the world. Hitchhiking most of the way, Mrs De Cleene, a grandmother, alone, with a very little money, visited France, Germany, Holland, Scandinavia, Iceland, England, and America. Throughout the tour lectures were given on New Zealand in Esperanto, which Mrs De Cleene found was the solution of all language difficulties. Hostesses were Mrs Bunt, Mrs Blackie, Miss Barnes, and members of the committee.
