N.Z. FRIGATE FOR KOREA
PUKAKI TO SAIL TOMORROW KANIERE TO RETURN IN JULY (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 28. On her third cruise to Far Eastern waters, the frigate Pukaki will sail for Sydney from the Devonport naval base at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Commanded by Lieutenant-Com-mander E. C. Thorne, R.N.Z.N., she will carry out working-up exercises out of Sydney before sailing for the Far East. At Sydney the Pukaki will join the cruiser Black Prince on May 17. The two ships will then steam north to take part to Commonwealth naval exercises in the Far East. Some of the ship's company will be making their second visit to the Far Eastern theatre. In addition there will be 13 youths fresh from the training school at Tamaki, For them'it will be their first cruise. In the Far East the Pukaki will relieve the frigate Kaniere, which has been operating in the theatre for nearly a year. The Kaniere is expected to return to Auckland about the middle of July.
