SEX EDUCATION PAMPHLETS
3000 COPIES AWAITED IN CHRISTCHURCH
The Health Department in Christchurch, which has already distributed about 5500 of the sex instruction pamphlets issued by th# Government, has received orders for a further 3000, and expects to have requests for at least a further 3000. It may not be possible to meet any of the orders until June.
The first issue of 5000 pamphlets was taken up two days after it became available some weeks ago. There remained a waiting list of 500, and when the Christchurch district received a supplementary quota, it was absorbed by this list. No further copies have been made available for distribution, and every day the department receives more requests for the pamphlets.
It is expected that further printings of the pamphlets will be undertaken now that the financial year has closed, but it will be many weeks before the printing and distribution can be completed. So far, the Christchurch office of the department has received orders for about 1500 sets from primary school parent-teacher organisations in the city and country areas. Orders from secondary school parent-teacher associations have so far totalled 620, of which 500 came from one school. About 80 sets have been ordered by kindergarten parent-teacher associations. There have been about 1000 requests for the pamphlets from individaual members of the public, but the department expects the demand to rise later when it recomes known that further supplies are available.
