BOXING ENFORCEMENT OF BOND
HAWKE’S BAY CRITICISM OF SUGGESTION
(New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS, April 22. The executive of the Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association has expressed concern at the suggested cancellation of Mike Hannah’s professional boxing licence. 1116 suggestion was made by the New Zealand Olympic and Empire Games Association. Hannah is alleged to have broken a bond, made before the last Empire Games, that he would not turn professional for two years.
A resolution expressing concern and calling upon the council of the New Zealand Boxing Association to take a strong stand on Hannah’s behalf was passed by the Hawke’s Bay executive last night. The executive also embodied in its resolution its view that the Olympic Association had neither the moral nor legal right to enforce such a ban on Hannah, and that the sole concern of the Olympic Association should be the amateur status of boxers when they are selected for the Games.
