TWO-SEX HIGH SCHOOLS
Sir, —At a recent meeting of the Christchurch Post-Primary Schools’ Council the immediate need for a further boys’ high school was strongly urged. An inspector of post-primary schools, Mr Jordan, is reported recently to have said: “Boys and girls should associate naturally whenever possible to appreciate their combined role in the community. How are they going to understand this if they are segregated in separate schools or by artificial divisions within the same classroom or school ground?” Parents need a reliable lead in the matter of desirable trends in education. The fact that numbers of parents appear to want their children to attend single-sex schools does not necessarily mean that this limited environment is. in the long run, the best one for the all-round development of the children concerned. —Yours, etc., TEACHER AND PARENT.
