M.E.D. CHARGES

Sir,—ln these days of increasing anxiety about the supply of electricity it would be interesting to know by what right the City Council retains its privilege to charge varying rates for electricity, which is used for the one purpose, i.e., domestic cooking. A house in which the only means of cookirig is by electricity should not, in any circumstances, be charged penalty rates merely because of the type of stove in use.—Yours, etc.. C. G. BURGESS. February 24, 1955.
