PANAMA CANAL BLOCKAGE

mass of rock falls INTO CHANNEL (Rec. 7 p.m.) BALBOA, November 5. A huge mass of rock slid into the Panama Canal today, blocking nearly half of the channel and creating ‘a bottleneck for ship traffic. Approximately 5000 tons of rock fell from jhe north end of Contractor's Hill into the canal at the Gaiallard Cut. narrowing it from its normal 300 ft to 175 ft.
