COCKTAIL PARTY
MIDDLE WATCH OF NAVY LEAGUE
The Middle Watch of the Navy League held its annual race-week party at Elizabeth House on Saturday, when more than 100 guests enjoyed themselves thoroughly at what resolved itself into a pleasant reunion. The principal guests of honour were Captain Whitfeld and officers of the Black Prince, now in Lyttelton, and others specially invited were Captain George Dennistoun, president of the Navy League, and Mrs Dennistoun, Commander J., N. Allan, of H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus, and Mrs Allan, and representatives of kindred associations. Many visitors to Christchurch for Cup week enjoyed the hospitality of the committee which had arranged the party, both as a social gathering and as a means of augmenting the Sea Cadets’ Fund.
The president of the Middle Watch (Miss Natalie Vale), who received the guests, wore an attractive frock of black and cognac corded silk made with a batteaii neckline and tiny upstanding collar at the back. Members; of the organising committee were Miss Vale, Lieutenant-Commander M. Holden, Lieutenant J. Hefford, Mrs Louise Gray, Misses Marian Harris, Susan Dean, Judith Weston, Phillipa Lorimer. Jean Sanderson, and Muriel Hunter, and Messrs W. G. P. Cuningham, Hamish Thomas, R. W. Edgley, -R. Pool, John Ahstey. and O, Rees (secretary).
