Christ’s College Old Boys’ Plans
RECONSTRUCTION OF CHAPEL
Subscribers to the Christ’s College War Memorial Fund have approved a proposal to reconstruct the college chapel as a war memorial, instead of the original scheme to erect a memorial gateway block and tower. “On Wednesday evening, a meeting attended by a large number of old boys, and others interested in the school, who had subscribed to the fund for the erection of a memorial to. the old boys who had served in the Second World War, was held in the Big School at Christ’s College,” says a statement issued after the meeting. “A large number- of subscribers who were unable to be present were represented by proxies. “The meeting was called by a subscriber, Mr A. I. Cottrell, under the provision of the Religious, Charitable and Educational Trusts Act, 1908, to consider a proposal which he put forward on behalf of the war memorial sub-committee of the Old Boys’ Association, that the fund which had bedh collected for the purpose of erecting a gateway block and tower, as a World War’ll memorial be Used instead to reconstruct the chapel as«a memorial. . , “After a very full discussion, which was taken in committee, the meeting approved of the proposal to reconstruct the chapel, and a committee was set up to prepare a scheme which will in due course be submitted to the At-torney-General for his approval in accordance with the provisions of the act,” the statement concludes.
