COMMUNITY WEEK

PLUNKET SOCIETY TO RECEIVE £193

DONATION FROM JUNIOR CHAMBER The Canterbury Junior Chamber of Commence will present a cheque for £193 6s lOd to the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society to buy equipment for the premature ward in the new Karitane Hospital. The cheque will be received from the president of the chamber (Mr J. H. Hurst) by Mrs P. G. Greenwood, a member of the executive of the society, at a luncheon in the Chamber of Commence hall today. It represents the proceeds of the sale of lime by the chamber during the winter, and will qualify for a Government £ for £ subsidy.

Guest speaker at the luncheon, which is part of the chamber’s “community week,” will be Mr W. R. Lascelles, who will speak on “Community Service.”

Also as part of “community week,” the Canterbury and West Coast branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society has organised a special swimming tuition class for crippled children at the Centennial Baths today. About 24 children will take part.
