NEW INFANT SCHOOL

SELF-CONTAINED 'UNIT AT ST. MARTINS An infant school—the* first such separate unit built by the Canterbury Education Board—will be erected early next year at the corner of Albert terrace and Roscoe street, St. Martins, near the head of Wilson'S road. Tenders will close on November 23. The inhovation of an independent infant school is being made primarily because infants of the area now have to travel long distances, some from across the river, to reach the Beckenham and Opawa schools. The accommodation for 160 in the new school will also relieve pressure on Beckenham School in particular. The building will have four classrooms on a site of two acres and a half. The land slopes towards thfe north. Some excavation will be necessary for the foundations. The school should be occupied before the end of next year.
