ROYAL APPLAUSE TURNED OUT
SOMERSET FAIR IN GOOD ORDER “Th« Press’* Special Service _ AUCKLAND, October 5. The three-year-old filly Royal Applause has been blistered and turned out of training. Royal Applause was the leading filly last season. She raced below her best form in two starts this season. She was bred from Light Opera, which yesterday foaled a colt by Gold Nib. Royal Applause's stablemates, the two-year-olds Gold Sieve and Moorlight, and the four-year-old Crusoe Bay, will travel to Trentham next Monday for the Wellington Racing Club's spring meeting, which will open on October 18. According to his trainer, R. J. Wallace, Black Seaman is an unlikely starter in the Hobson Hack Handicap on the first day of the Auckland Racing Club's spring meeting on Saturday. R. C. Verner said yesterday that Nereis was an uncertain starter in the Shorts Handicap. The very good three-year-old, Somerset Fair, which was affected last week py a bruised foot, worked strongly. 45 feet out on the course proper at Ellerslie tola morning. He galloped on the outside of Akbar (Parker) and Longfellow (Forbes) over six furlongs in lmin 18see. SomerMt Fair was ridden by his trainer, J. C. Bagby. He cast a shoe during the gallop, and blew a little afterwards, but otherwise looked all right. A highly-regarded filly, Gabrielle (Bagby), was beaten by El Khobar (Forbes) and Gilleno (Vasas) over naif a mile in 48 3-ssec. It was a brilliant effort by El Khobar. He is an unraced two-year-old colt by Gabador from Gay Abandon, and is being prepared by K. J. Heaton for Mr W. Fisher. He will probably make his debut on the second day at Ellerslie.
