PARLIAMENTARY DAY
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, September 1. Good progress was made with legislation by the House of Representatives today. Most of the afternoon was taken up with discussion on two petitions, one seeking continuation of the flying-boat service to the Chatham Islands, the other the prohibition of captive bird shooting and live hare coursing. The House then put seven bills through the committee stages, and on the Workers’ Compensation Amendment Bill the division bells rang for the first time this session. On the Local Government Loans Board Amendment Bill the House got no further than the short title, and it is proposed that the bill be referred to the Local Bills Committee. The House adjourned at 10.32 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. tomorrow, when there are 12 local bills to be passed. It is possible then that discussion will be held on papers for consideration before the House continues to debate legislation.
