Atomic Energy Bill Becomes Law

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, August 30. President Eisenhower signed the much-debated Atomic Energy Bill today and opened the door for private industry to become a full partner in the peace-time development of the atom. Mr Eisenhower put his signature on a measure which was tailored, for the most part, to his own recommendations. It gave the basic atomic energy law its first overhaul since that law was passed in 1946. The key provisions of the new law are designed to promote the development of a private atomic power industry. Other important features clear the way for wider international co-opera-tion in using atomic energy for war and for peace.
