ELEVATED RAILWAY

, Sir,—l can assure “T.W.R." that a lot of interest is being taken in elevating our railway system near Christchurch. There are new-type engineering plants in Canterbury which could tender to dig shingle from the Waimakariri river and elevate the railway from Belfast right through KaApoi. This would demonstrate what an elevated railway would do to improve road and other traffic. With a practical demonstration in working order the more difficult end could then be achieved. The Westminster type of dredge and a self-unloading freight tram would be necessary.—Yours, etc., . L. C. WALKER. August 31, 1954.
