SUPERANNUITANTS

Sir, —The Prime Minister, in his Budget speech in July, promised the lower-paid superannuitants a substantial increase. Other promises are being granted as from August 1. Why make the old men wait for two months? They are dying off almost every day. Mr Holland is not to blame for that. He should keep his promise to them, before they die. He says now that the £3OO limit will be maintained. There was no limit except for widows. £3OO was once a good allowance, it is not much now. To use it is simply to reduce the value of the benefits prom-, ised. The National Government should rectify that, and date the benefit from ; August I.—Yours, etc., * OLD ONE. August 30, 1954.
