LANCASTER PARK LOUDSPEAKERS

Sir, —The display of the pipe bands at Lancaster Park on Saturday was spoilt for many on the bank because the official manipulating the loudspeaker system omitted to disconnect his microphone. As a result, the playing of the bands when standing before No. 1 stand came to us through the loudspeakers, grossly magnified and badly distorted- Such carelessness might be embarrassing. When the bands stopped playing a muttering of voices was heard, and a few remarks came through quite clearly. Ohe which caused some laughter on the bank referred to “a bottle of whisky.” It is not necessarily a part of the fun of a Ranfurly Shield match, I suggest, to retail officials’ conversations to the bank via the loudspeaker. Or is it?—* Yours, etc., . JOHNNY WALKER. Alfeust 30, 1954.
