HEATHCOTE POWER CUTS

Sir,—ln reply to “24 Hours,” lam neither irresponsible to power restrictions, nor to payment of trade accounts, rent, and wages, on which our community depends for its living. To meet commitments, orders must be delivered to the retailer to sell at the time of demand. “24 Hours” glibly states there are 22 hours left. This correspondent cannot be in the trade, and therefore is not competent to pass judgment. The Heathcote County Council gave one announcement that consumers were over 12 per cent above allocation, then enforced the severe cuts of 14 hours a week. May I ask that cuts be shared by home and the trade alike—one hour during the day and half an hour in the evenings?— Yours, etc., BUDGET CONTROL. August 30, 1954.
