MAIN ELECTORAL ROLL
CLOSING DATE NEXT WEEK CHECK ON INCLUSION OF NAMES (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 10. The closing on August 17—today week—of the main roll for the General Election means that persons desiring to register as electors have only five working days to make sure theitr names are included. Those persons who, because of changes in the electoral boundaries, are not sure whether they are enrolled for the proper electorate, should without delay make a written or telephoned inquiry from the Registrar of Electors in their district, says the Electoral Office in a supplied statement today.
Within the last few months every elector on the old rolls should have received a card specifying his proper electoral district, which may have been changed as a result of alterations to the electoral boundaries. The elector was asked to confirm the address or notify any change in it, and a detachable reply card was supplied for this purpose. If the reply was dispatched confirming the address it is safe for an elector to assume that he is on the main roll. He will be on the roll also if he notified a change of address and received an acknowledgement from the registrar. In either case an elector need make no inquiry, it is said. Those persons who have not replied to the registrar’s inquiry card or have changed an address without notifying this fact are the ones who should make an immediate inquiry at the registrar’s office to determine whether they are on the main roll. The cleansing of the roll has been carried out thoroughly, and failure to reply to a registrar’s notice may have resulted in a name being struck off the roll. Electors have until the close of business next Tuesday to make sure they are on the main roll.
