GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S ELDER SON
ARRIVAL BY AIR FROM ENGLAND The first passenger down the gangway of a Tasman Airways plane when it reached Harewood from Sydney at 7.35 a.m. yesterday was Mr George Norrie, the elder son of the GovernorGeneral (Sir Willoughby Norrie). Mr Norrie, who is 18, has just com- I pleted five years at Eton, where last 1
year he gained his school certificate. He will remain in New Zealand until the end of March, when he will return to England to do his term of national service. At the airport yesterday, Mr Norrie said he would serve in the Army. Asked whether he would make the Army his career, he said it was a possibility. It was Mr Norrie’s first visit to Christchurch. After he had breakfasted at the cafeteria in the internal terminal, he was taken for a motor drive round Christchurch. At 10 a.m., he left Harewood by air for Paraparaumu.
