MR GOOSMAN’S PROMISES
Sir,—This is election year and Mr Goosman has been endeavouring to fave something from the wreck caused by Government policies by promising Buller residents support for their proposed cement works. A previous Tory administration promised them the same thing in 1928. The Westport harbour is to be dredged some time in the future. My mind goes back to 1949, another election year, when Mr Goosman broadcast an address from the Dimedin Town Hall. He condemned Bob Semple’s administration of the hydro-electric department. He sorrowfully pictured the shivering housewife and her children with no coal or heating facilities. “There will be no more power cuts when we become the Government. We know where steam plants are available, and we will have them installed within 12 months,” bellowed Mr Goosman. This is 1954. Newspaper editors apparently have very convenient memories, judging by your leading article in this morning’s issue.—Yours, etc., TOM BRYCE. June 10, 1954. [This letter was referred to Mr Goosman, but no reply has been received.—Ed., “The Press.”]
